Dr. Mary L. Godwin is the principle owner and artist of Once Again Design based in Nacogdoches, Texas. Mary is an accomplished academic whose scholarly interests lie in the direction of French philosophy, feminist strengths, and the force of language in its many and varied expressions. Her intellectual work intersects her art and design at the apex of inspiration – the pursuit of laughter, the dance of imagination, and unexpected happenings.
Mary discovers the essential message connecting disparate elements of a collection, focuses attention on that narrative, and translates an archive of ideas, images, and artifacts into living work of art.
The work of art is to encourage expanded social capacity - the opportunity to encounter and appreciate perspectives different from our own. Mary situates her work as an act of rebellion that pushes back against the demands of time, insists on multiple directions, and mobilizes the force of forgotten stories in next expressions that are as immediate as they are timeless.
Once Again Design is fueled by the desire to see more, dig deeper, and cast a light on the story alongside the story – to excavate the sunlight and shadows between worlds and invite a next story to emerge. From the beginning, Mary was a dream keeper, a word collector, and treasure seeker. She values possibility over tragedy and reconfiguration over preservation.
“I create ways of knowing and seeing; I reimagine ways to hold secrets in the open – not to judge or be judged, but to take possession anew of a self I may only just then discover to have been mine all along. My projects are victories and overcoming, but they are not my only stories. I am always moving. You will find me where the line blurs between keeping and letting go – gathering, traversing, laughter, and play.”
